Programs

CWICNY’s work focuses on protecting and improving water quality across the New York side of the Lake Champlain Basin. Through collaboration, planning, and on-the-ground implementation, we help address the sources of phosphorus, sediment, and other pollutants that affect rivers, streams, wetlands, and Lake Champlain itself.
Our programs support watershed health through a range of strategies—from agricultural conservation and urban stormwater management to forestry best practices and broader water quality initiatives. Together, these efforts help reduce runoff, strengthen climate resilience, and protect the natural resources that communities depend on.
-

Agriculture
CWICNY supports farmers in implementing conservation practices that reduce nutrient runoff, improve soil health, and protect local waterways while sustaining working farms.
-

Urban Stormwater
Stormwater from roads, rooftops, and parking lots can carry pollutants into nearby waters. CWICNY helps communities reduce runoff impacts through green infrastructure, erosion control, and stormwater best management practices.
-

Forestry
Healthy forests help filter water, stabilize soils, and protect habitat. CWICNY promotes forestry practices that reduce erosion, improve stream crossings, and protect water quality across the watershed.
-

Water Quality
Protecting water quality is central to CWICNY’s mission. Through planning, restoration, and on-the-ground projects, we work to reduce nonpoint source pollution and improve the health of rivers, streams, wetlands, and Lake Champlain.
